Our new patio and retaining walls are flawless and handle drainage perfectly.” These experiences highlight our dedication to precision and client satisfaction in every Holladay project. ## Designing Around Holladay's Mature Trees and Established Lots Holladay is one of the oldest settlements in Utah. Pioneers wintered along Spring Creek in 1847, and areas like Knudsen’s Corner and Holladay Village have been home to families for generations. The city sits at roughly 4,500 feet and climbs east toward Mount Olympus and the Wasatch foothills. It is known for larger lots, mature shade trees, and established homes that often need a complete outdoor update rather than a first-time install. ### Working with what is already great A big part of designing in Holladay is protecting what took decades to grow: - **Mature tree protection.** We plan patios, walls and trenching outside critical root zones wherever possible, and use root-friendly paving methods near large trees - **Shade-smart planting.** Dense canopies change what will grow. We choose shade-tolerant shrubs, perennials and groundcovers instead of fighting thin lawn under trees - **Updating older irrigation.** Many established yards still run original spray systems. We redesign around separate lawn and drip zones and a smart, weather-based controller ### Outdoor rooms for larger properties Holladay’s bigger lots leave room for true outdoor living: - Belgard paver patios and walkways connecting multiple outdoor rooms - Outdoor kitchens, covered pergolas and fire features - Natural stone retaining walls and boulder work toward the foothills - Low-voltage lighting for specimen trees, facades and paths - Paver driveways that improve curb appeal on long frontages ### Water-wise and rebate-eligible Holladay is on the state’s list of communities eligible for Utah’s Landscape Incentive Program, which pays to replace living, maintained lawn with water-efficient landscaping. Do not remove grass before approval and a site visit. Converting a sunny front lawn to a Localscapes-style design (defined lawn or hardscape shape, planting beds on drip, mulch and stone) can cut outdoor water use without losing Holladay’s green, established look. ### Respecting the setting Holladay’s streets have an established, green character that newer suburbs cannot copy. We aim for landscapes that look like they belong there. That means natural stone that matches the foothills, layered planting under the existing canopy, and hardscape colors that complement brick, stone and stucco homes instead of competing with them. ### Our process Every Holladay project starts with an on-site consultation and a 2D/3D design. You see exactly how new patios, walls, lighting and plantings will sit among existing trees before construction starts. Once you approve the plan, one in-house team builds it from excavation through final walkthrough. ### Rooted in Holladay Our owner was raised in Holladay, so this is home ground. That local connection shows in every project, from knowing how the foothill neighborhoods drain to matching the established character of Holladay’s streets. From design to final walkthrough, our in-house team handles the whole project. We focus on complete landscape builds and renovations, not routine mowing or seasonal clean-up. ## Frequently Asked Questions Why is local expertise important for a Holladay landscape company?
